My first Harley far exceeded my expectations. I was riding a metric when I saw an old basketcase sporty in a friend's garage. I bought it cheap and spent almost 5 years restoring and modifying it. In the meantime, I bought a used 01 Ultra. The Ultra is everything I ever wanted in a touring bike, but that first ride on the sporty I built from the ground up was awesome!

Way beyond! I'm on my second now, just as perfect, and hands down better than any other brand I've had, and I've had most. Actually it's mostly taste. I've had trail, dual, and super fast. I now like to cruise, and this is the king of cruise. I scrape corners every day, so forget that. And I can't imagine ever wanting to ride hugging my tank; to each his own.
I pulled in to work today at the same time as a BMW rider. His looked good, yellow trim, black hardcase saddlebags, yellow helmet and leather suit.
I politely said "Good day to ride, but not as good as yesterday". He said "I don't care. I ride everyday", and gave my Ultra a once over. I just said "me too". I ride every day and don't see his bike there most cold days.
It's some riders who have hang ups, not "Harley riders", or any other. I'm proud, but won't be a jerk about it.

One of my relatives was in a MC and owned a couple of Harley's, and when I was just a youngster he let me ride one from time to time.
For me there wasn't that much 'hype' involved with Harley's, as I grew up around them and that's all I knew. I don't remember anyone that came around that owned metric bikes.
My first Harley was a chopped rigid frame '49 Panhead, and my first new Harley was a 1972 FX SuperGlide... I was riding with a club on the east coast at that time, and quite a number of us owned the FX's. Back then they were like the 'hot rod' of big twins and very popular....
Got talked into selling my FX when I purchased a 1981 Shovelhead, and I've been kicking myself ever since. Oh well.

Ride, ride ride, lets ride. Dab burn snow go away I am suffering from PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome)
