I have a couple questions for you guys. How long would you ride before taking a break and then getting back on the bike. I was talking to a ol biker at the stealer and he said the key was to ride 100 miles then take a break then ride 100 more miles and take a break. He said he could ride all day as long as he stopped every 100 miles or so to stretch and get some water. Next question......how many miles would you suggest riding in a single day?? You know to make the trip enjoyable.

RE: longest motorcycle trip
that's not a bad rule of thumb, i tend to like two hours ( whatever the speed at a pop) and then i'm ready for water or coffee and a leak, the bike can have some fuel too. If you're looking to maximize your fun quotient, and are not pressed for time, ride til you feel like a break and take it. If on the other hand you are on a deadline, I like to set goals for each stretch of ride ( this is important when your butt says no mas and the odometer says " when are you gonna quit screwing around and get serious about this ride?"

Solo from N.C. to Sturgis, Yellowstone, Tetons, south to Utah, east through Colorado and back. 16 days, 5100 miles, camped every night but two. Hope to do the California and Oregon coast. Also, want to do Alaska. So many roads, so little time.

In August 2000 we did 8000 miles in 14 days riding two up on the Electraglide, half camping & half moteling it.
In August 1996 I did 6000 miles in 9 days riding solo on my FXRS without even a windshield and tent camped every night.

About 7,000 miles. Washington State to Georgia and Florida and back through the Ozarks, Iows and across the mid west. Great trip but wish I'd had someone to share it with. Would like to do it again one day with maybe one or two extra bikes with people that don't feel like we have to be joined at the hip.
