HD Dealer or Indy shop?

I prefer my local indy. A good wrench is a good wrench, and a good indy is almost always going to be cheaper than the H-D dealer. Besides, my indy is in business for himself, so chances are he's more concerned with doing a good job than someone who works for a dealer. FWIW.

when I needed tires I priced the two local dealers and two Indys. One was as expensive as the dealer, so the other got the job. From now on any job that needs doin, that I don't feel confident in doin myself, has to be bid on. No more "just do it". Moneys gettin hard to find lately. So just like a bussiness, give me your best price and hope your the lowest.,,

Haven't found any indys anywhere close to here. One thing about dealers is every time I go in there, several employees are standing around shooting the bull. They've got bike salesmen, apparel salesmen, parts salesmen, mechanics and more. Not to mention the big new building they're paying for. When you go in there you're paying for a lot more than just what you're having done. I'd love to have an indy within a hundred miles.

I think there's room for both dealers and Indys...there's a few of the "stealers" around here who I avoid like a social disease, and there's the "dealer" where I go...I get a discount on all parts, H-D or not, and their labor rates are WAY lower than the "stealers"...and there's also a couple of real good Indy's locally where I spend a few $$ now and then...nothin's cut and dried, you just have to shop around...
