I used to wear foam ear plugs when I had loud pipes. But in the past couple years my pipes have become progressively quieter to the point now that my new bike will remain STOCK. I'm really enjoying the soft exhaust tone and dont need earplugs at all anymore. The loud exhaust wears me down on anything but shorter rides.

Really What! Actually 15 or 20 yrs ago i started thinking about hearing loss.then I tried everything, hated all of them. Also a huge fan of RocknRoll.Yes I have very slight tinnitus, but that is the price that had to be paid! Would do it again the same way.Life is just too short to miss one second of it.

The pipes aren't really what causes hearing damage, it's the wind at highway speed. People don't realize how damaging this is to the ears.

I've been playin drums for 10 yrs. prior to riding bikes so the sounds don't affect me. I do agree with petemac on the wind noise tho.. My ears ring longer after a few hours riding vs. playing all night in a bar. I sure don't mind the trade off

That is what my problem is, the wind noise. I tried wearing earplugs to dampen the wind but felt that I wasn't hearing the surrounding traffic enough. Maybe I just wasn't used to them yet I don't know. I also think that if you do get used to riding with plugs in and for some reason you don't have them (lost or misplaced) the ride can be really loud.

No I don't and Yes it has. I have 100% hearing loss in the high range and I attribute much of it to riding with nothing over/in my ears. I also used to shoot allot without any hearing protection.
I have a very hard time understanding Women and Children now especially if they have a very high pitched voice. Next to impossible for me to understand little girls on T.V. or in Movies.
I can still hear a Harley from a pretty good distance and that's all the really matters anyway.
