Question Roadside assistance/towing

I am thinking about increasing my towing coverage from the standard amount(not much) my insurance policy offers. Can anyone offer any advice from personal experiences, whether good or bad?
AMA,HOG and AAA all offer these plans. Any others? Thanks

I have AAA with RV + and have used it years ago and no problem worth the price of admission, and pays for itself the very first time. The longest wait for me was 2 1/2 hrs. and that was during bikeweek a few years back.

HOG sucks. Progressive's towing has always been prompt even in the middle of the night after I'd been in a wreck.

What happend with HOG towing. I have never had to use it, but I have also never heard anything bad about it. Can you offer some examples of why someone might need extra coverage besides HOG?

I would hate to be stuck in the middle of nowhere and find out HOG doesnt' offer service in that area or something. I also have towing on my insuracne, it's like $10 extra a year. I figure between that and HOG towing, someone should be able to come get me if needed.

Road America, through Motorcycle Riders Foundation, works for me.

If you read your hog pamplet on towing it says they will tow you to the nearest harley dealer for free up to so many miles I think, but that does'nt mean to the closet open dealer. Like me I got a flat tire 75 miles from home and the closest dealer was about 25 miles out further then my house and they would of been closed anyways, so I just had the bike towed home. I have check AAA plus towing because that is the package you will need to cover bikes and they will give you, if I remember this right, one 100 mile tow and two 50 mile tows per year at no cost anyplace you like. This is off the top of my head though.

Depends on the riding you do I think. Last summer we had a rear tire blow out in central Mississippi. We were about 100 miles from the closest HD dealer. Standard HOG covered the first $100--it cost me $200 out of pocket to get to the dealer. For a few $$ more on the plan we would have had nothing out of pocket.

You might want to look into the Allstate Motor Club plan, which I've had for a few years but never needed to use. It includes RVs and motor homes as well as bikes and cars, and its towing plan includes unlimited mileage.

Also, the price includes a spouse membership as well. When I checked into it, it seemed more comprehensive and less expensive than AAA. Worth a look.

I bought this plan. The premium plan covers two cars also.
I had to use it once and the wait time was only about 45 minutes.
I will renew.

In my experience HOG coverage is only good if you travel interstates only. My bike quit on the way home last October. I was 16 miles west of Glen Rose, Tx. on State Highway 67. When I called HOG they wanted to know the nearest mile marker. When I told them that there were no mile markers they said they could not even call their wrecker service unless I could give them a mile marker or nearest cross street. I was on a state highway, no mile markers or cross street. I told them that I was about 2 miles west of another state highway and they could not find it.

One of the other riders in the group had a GPS so I gave them the GPS location. They came back and told me I was in a town 100 miles north of where I actually was.

They would only pay the first $100, so while I was waiting on them to call back I called a local wrecker company (in Arlington) and had them come and get me. I did not think the $100 was worth the trouble I was going through with HOG. When HOG called back I told them to forget it as I had already made arrangements for a wrecker.

I am not a HOG roadservice fan.
