These are some interesting posts from The Highwayman, an interesting person who occasionally posted on the Cycle World message board.

The Highwayman
They call me The Highwayman.

I've come to this American bikes forum to restore respect for the genuine values in motorcycling. Values that are all about real American bikers on real American motorcycles. And that means honest hard-working Americans riding genuine Harley-Davidsons.

The cheap imitations and phoney posers are no longer welcome around here - and that goes for the riders as much as the machines. Taking out the foreign trash and the cardboard cowboys that ride 'em is the first step towards restoring the faith and pride in being a real American on a real American bike.

In these times there is no longer any room in the house for the depravity that leads an American to ride some plastic Asian contraption, and beg for acceptance as a real biker. This country is under attack in all quarters - military, economic and moral - from squalid degenerates who seek to destroy the American way. They insist that no values are better than others, no beliefs are better than others and no motorcycles are better than others.

The real American knows different. He has the values, the faith, the pride and the courage to stand up for and defend the American way. And in motorcycling, that means standing up for the real deal in American motorcycling, the Harley-Davidson.

You either are an American biker, or you are not. There is no middle ground, as may be claimed by a mock-pretend American on some Asian V-twin atrocity.

All of you who don't belong in these parts, you know who you are. And so do we. Get packing, you've got a long ride ahead. Out of town.

Boots and Gloves of the Real Biker
Time to take stock of this essential garb for biking in America. The real Harley biker knows all about it.

By a man's boots you can read the character of the man wearing them, and his resolve to do things his way, the right way, the only way. On a Harley, boots precede the rest of the biker, leading the charge of steel and leather thundering down the highway. Off the bike, a Harley rider's boots still serve a noble purpose, as they are his roots to the earth and his foundation for taking a stand on all issues that define a real American.

Boots are also the only part of Harley riders seen by squids, who are too gutless to raise their sights any higher in the presence of a Real Biker. As the squids cower and tremble at the sight of Harley boots, they secretly wish they were man enough to fill them. Needless to say, a Harley rider's boots state their case silently, 'less of course a squid be so dense the boots need teach a lesson or two.

Gloves also tell a story. A Harley rider's fist in the air is accorded a reverent respect by all who know the traditions and values he stands for. Other hand signals from Harley riders have led Americans to heroic achievements for untold decades. And the greatest honor any biker can have is another Harley rider raising his hand in a salute of recognition.

Most times a Harley rider will find that fingerless gloves are best, as they provide a tight rein on the machine but also the readiness for a bare-knuckled grappling of adversity. Then there are times of courage and resolve when a Harley rider controls his throttle and the men he leads with a full gauntlet.

The boots and gloves worn by a rider of a Harley-Davidson are among the most important expressions of who he is, and not just because they do the talking from time to time.

It's because they're along for the ride every time.

Boots yes. But I'm more comfortable without gloves. I carry a pair in my saddlebag though. Does that count?

That is the only feasible defense when your writing is complete bull$hit.
