I didn't hear back from him after a couple of days , so I emailed him and instead he went out and bought a new 09./ Roadking. Why would someone pay 6,000 more for a 09? Just trying to figure the logic.
When you add future resale value to the equation, that $6K difference is going to shrink to a far lower amount. On top of that you factor in the rider enjoyment gained by having a brand new bike to break in the way he wants, as well as the '09 improvements in handling, heat management and stock exhaust sound. Then the '09 begins to sound like a better deal.

I have seen loads of things on ebay with a buy it now price that doesn't sell. Plenty of vehicles on there with buy it now prices that are nothing but blue sky. I sure wouldn't use that as a representation of somethings value.

As for the original question, most purchases seem to be driven by emotion and those seem to run high when you are sitting in the saddle.

Your prices seem somewhat high , I saw 3 police spec 08 roadkings new at Seminole HD in april or may and were priced $15,900 plus tax & title. And 08 Ultra Classics at dealers around Tampa for 20,600.......

Most used Harleys are way overpriced ..

Been that way for years , just as easy to add a few k to the askin price and buy new off the floor ..

Well maybe I stand corrected. I usually go by "Black Book" retail value and try to go a couple of $K's under and stay slightly under what the "Buy IT NOW" prices are on ebay. I want someone to feel like they got a very fair shake and make some $ as well. Just sold a 2008 Dyna Super Glide Custom anniversary for 11,000 and the guy very happy. I will go in at 15,500 on the Road King and see what happens. Just got license a couple of months ago, so still learning. I do get to keep about 5 Harleys to ride in my garage all the time though.

In New York a new 09 Super Glide Custom /2 tone can be had for ~ $12500 + TTL without haggling. Also, everyone here who knows anything (and has a few bucks) is dumping their 2008 and older FLH's, to buy the 2009 models. Your RKC price was good, but I and many others would rather have a 09 because they are greatly improved. Good luck with your side business.
