Yep I betcha most states are going to start enforcing the 'money makin' laws a bit more like pipes and lights and plates and such that used to be overlooked. Easy money now that there is a budget crunch....

never mind.. found it:

Starting Jan. 1, police can stop you if "Arizona" isn't clearly visible at the top of the plate. Violators will be fined an average of $135, plus court fees, depending on the city where the violation is discovered.

You'd have to have a really thick plate frame to cover the "AZ" on a bike plate...

I have heard of automatic character readers. IOW - they can run your plate without typing, calling or such.
Much like the Border Patrol have.
Anybody else hear this???
Up here, it is also NO VERTICAL mounting, anymore. And also a height requirement from ground. ALL sounds sorta 'mechanized' LE to me.

AND imagine this, if your tag comes back with a 'flag' on it. YOU ARE GUILTY. You prove to them, you are innocent. Mean while, we'll jus' impound your vehicle, til you show us the right paperwork.

Don't you ppl in Az have the 'speed cameras' and 'stop light cameras', too?
Stop light cams up here were deemed unconstitional by State's Supreme court.
They tried 'decoy' cars in the 80's, but ppl took out their 'wrath' on the decoy cars. Sorta funnier than chit to me. But then, I'm anti-social.

NOW do you folks get an idea why it is IMPORTANT to pay attention to those obscure Judges ya vote for on the ballot? Sure it's work, BUT it is your "FREEDOMS" and RIGHTS they control. Worth a li'l bit of your time, I'd say.

I wouldn't put it past the DOTs to change the license plate design so that the LEO's can pull more riders over. Like others have said, it's easy money.

Yes AZ has red light cams, speed cams on surface streets, speed cams on highways, mobile speed cams everywhere and the AZ highway patrol does use the laser plate recognition system. There was a recent article I read where a single officer can run pretty much every plate going by on the highway in near realtime. I'll bet this new law has something to do with that system...
