Default To HD R&D will we pay for more speed???

All these threads about the MoCo not building enough torque or enough speed makes me wonder, how many of you would really want to have a cruiser or bagger type bike that runs as fast as a Zuki Hayabusa right off the showroom floor?

I think theyve tried to address this with the V-Rod and look at how those are received by the general HD buying public. 60 degree water cooled it is a Harley because the tank badge says so (not bashing I love the VRod)

And they own half of Buell (or they did), its a quick little bike if you want fast why buy a 700lb touring bike?

With a few bucks you can build a bagger that'll run with the ricers and still be reliable but given the application why would you? Im betting most Harley Davidson riders are content with the power and speed available from the big twin or evo motor but let the poll speak for itself

ps: I aint ridin no Softail at 140mph thank you...

I think it's two different things. You either want a quick racer or you want a profiling ride. Like a Camaro vs a Cadillac - except the ricers are not as cool as a Camaro, but you get the idea.

My opinion is that the MoCo purposely delivers bikes that run far below their stock potential knowing that buyers will upgrade the few things (with HD parts) to get their bike to run correctly. That's my beef.

if you want to buy a harley that will go fast buy a v-rod if you want to enjoy your ride buy a bagger.

I think my bike runs correctly, but then again, I'm one of the "sheep". Never done a thing engine wise and probably never will.

I spent a lot of $$ upgrading performance on metrics........I just don't see it as HD only. The metrics do not have that much more real street performance that I ever felt. There are as many aftermarket and in Yamaha case anyway, "Speedstar" upgrades available as HD has.

I don't need super-speed and like the way they come set-up. Let's me pick and chose how much I want to upgrade.

So to answer original question........not me.

I don't know of a single factory made motor for anything (cars, boats, space rockets, metric, american, european) that can't be made to go faster or have more horsepower with aftermarket stuff, hell why not, folks don't think twice about chipping their auto/truck, putting on 3" exhaust, ram air intakes, K&N filters nitrous. It's called hot rodding, it's been going on for as long as the first motor was ever built.

Maybe HD should just build a full out street racer like I use to buy my racing bikes,,, only draw back, you'd have no stinking warranty, would be illegal on the street (non EPA compliant), so if Harley is watching that's what I would do, imagine buying that 125" 200 H.P. blown V-twin motor man that would be great from the factory right, of course folks would bitch about the price, no warranty and when the motor come undone, I say go for it Harley or you will be out of business according to a few!!!!

The VRod is a failure due to it's horrid styling and awkward proportions. If you put that engine in something that is actually appealing more people would be buying them.

I think they should at least make an attempt to equal or better their Japanese and American competition in terms of HP & torque without having to spend 30K on a CVO or 5-10K at an engine builder.
