LENNY???!!?? Is that you, Lenny? Where's my dammt torque wrench?

Good advise to check out the Sears set. Then sit back, and walk yourself thru a couple of your 'normal' projects. When you realize you just thought of a tool for the project, you lost, voila, write it down. IF ya have a wrenchin' buddy, use him for thoughts, too. JMFUO ?!?

Sux losin' yur chit. No matter what they thieved.

NOTE to fellow FORUM Members: Take digital pics of your tool boxes, tools, etc. Download 'em onto a disc. READ that: "F"ing ins. cos. Plus when you have to 'list' everything, you have a real good 'reminder' of what you REALLY did have.
My kid did mine, WOW, amazed at what we really have.

I would take the money and buy a badass German Shepherd and a 12 G shotgun.

+ 1 on the photo inventory. Sorry to hear about the theft. That sucks. I'm a diesel mechanic, so I know all about the cost of good tools. I had to make a list of every single item in my boxes for my employer's ins co. I also took pics and video of the contents of every drawer on both my boxes at work and did the same for the two boxes in my garage for my homeowners ins.

that blows that ya lost yer tools.

just some advise, keep an itemized list like said above a few times, but also get an engraver and give each one of 'em a tattoo (serial #)...good for tracking them...and you can re-up on some of them by checking local pawn shops

+1. Forgot to mention, my name is scratched into every single tool I own. An engraving tool is worth its weight in gold. Have left tools out on a job at work, and they always find their way back.

Craigslist.
EBay.
Garage Sales.
Pawn Shops.
Ect...

Buy used Craftsman tools. They are still guaranteed, and will cost a lot less than new.

Craftsman.

Some may laugh but I've had a set of craftman socket wrenches now for 20+ years and
while I don't use them everyday I use them often enough to be suprised that not 1 is
damages... every one of them still looks new.

One of the craftsman or Husky pre made sets will get you a long way towards everything you need. Then a couple of torque wrenches, extra extensions, wobble sockets, oil filter wrench, voltmeter etc.

also forgot to mention that there are alot of good deals on craigslist and ebay for tools. You can get alot for your money if you don't mind used.

Arrow Craftsman +1

Sorry about your loss. I have some sentimental favorites in my toolbox that could never be replaced; Dad's old tools and my first metric hammer.

Taking a picture for insurance purposes is a great idea.

Borrowing your neighbors is another.

I'd be like a kid in candystore with a 1k settlement.
Hope the crooks hit their thumbs with your hammer.
