Stopped at the Shumate store in Kennewick, WA this morning. Door was open and there were lots of new bikes still sitting around but there was no one there. I do believe I could have pushed a new bike out the door into a truck and drove off with it. I used the restroom and strolled around looking at the bikes for a few minutes and still saw no one. The stairs going up to parts and clothing was taped off and a sign said it was closed for "reorganization". I didn't go over to the metric part or the service department.

This was printed in the Spokesman Review "Vandervert Development v. Shumate Spokane et al., restitution of premises" Looks like they are done for sure. With the exception of people there being out of work i say good riddance. I hope someone does reopen a Harley shop in Spokane, but has a little bit more down to earth approach to customers

Mark, the service manager at Legend Harley in Wenatchee has bent over backwards to help my son and I even though we didn't buy our bikes there (got them at Shumate). He has went above and beyond to correct a screw up by Shumate on my son's Ultra. First rate service and there should be a way to clone this guy enough times that every Harley dealership could have one.

I guess the strong dealerships will survive, but I have to wonder when it is all said and done,Will the prices of Harleys get unrealistic again as they were a few years back.Just wondering out loud.

i think pricing will level out and be steady. Harley will slowly increase to demand this time around.

Another article I found

The Shumate Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership here in Spokane has largely shut down amid financial problems that include a legal battle with a factory credit provider, but a Spokane attorney for the dealership says he is confident that it and two affiliated Inland Northwest stores, in Lewiston and Kennewick, will resume full operations soon.

Michael Shumate, a Tri-Cities Harley-Davidson dealer, bought the Spokane Valley dealership at 6815 E. Trent and the Lewiston, Idaho, satellite store

Auburn Harley is really closed now. The shop burned down in the Auburn fire a couple days ago. A couple ex-employees showed up, drove a fork lift through a wall, and managed to save the Harleys before the fire got completely out of control. Left over accessories were a total loss.

Moderators: I just read through all 13 pages of this thread. I agree with you, this is valuable information for travelers. But about 2/3 of the posts in the thread are, um, off-topic. I encourage you to delete these.

Im interested to know what everyone thinks. Can you get a better deal on a new harley at a dealership that is closing. Dont know myself if it would hel them out in anyway to offer a better deal on existing stock or not. I got a 09 Dyna new a few weeks ago and cant get a break from any of the local dealerships on trading up for a fat boy
