1st buy an owners manual and parts book....
it good everyone wants to help but maybe
your getting in over your heard, fairing should be
easy.....its whats behind there that can kick your
butt.....i always say it's wise to practice on a friend
bike before hurting your own. lol

I have done it both with the w/s on and off, doing it with it on made it a little bulkier feeling to me but what I found that you need to be careful of is the inner fairing wants to overlap the outer or the outer hangs up on the speakers and can cause scratches.
I usually leave the w/s on because I hate F'in with the w/s seal because it starts coming off down the road. I bought a new seal and crazy glued it on every couple inches and that made life much easier.
Now the last time I put the fairing on I tried the method of removing the headlights, man that made it hella easy, but you still gotta watch the fairing overlap. Blue tape works fine

to me removing the w/s makes it easier to install it , see the hooks better and you can look further over to see where it is ..
