I've been riding for years and never had a bad experience with Cops, Bike broke down once and two motorcycle cops pulled over and helped. Called for a tow then hung around and talked bikes for 10-15 min. I had on my leather vest with Skulls and it was hot so I was sleaveless with Tattoos showing. Couldn't have looked more Biker and they were nothing but nice. Michael

This just strikes me as another negative knee-jerk reaction. It plagues our society these days. There's this notion that nothing should ever happen in my world that upsets me...'cause I'm special. Sorry. You're not. Nor am I. If I don't want attention from LEOs (they've got better things to do) then I don't do anything that requires their attention.

I thought this was a remarkable and well thought out procedure for dealing with a traffic stop, if one became necessary. It sets up a procedure for dealing with the issue through the club's own hierarchy. It reiterates citizen's rights to respect, and reminds officers not to be "badge-heavy." And it ensures officers take steps to maintain control of the situation. Perfectly reasonable. Leave all your automatic club associations and assumptions aside, this would be a fine way to stop a chapter ride of the Blue Knights, if one became necessary.

I suspect, though I don't have a copied post to prove it, that there's a specific procedure for dealing with a traffic stop for an SUV with limo tint on the windows. As there is for someone driving erratically. As there is for a hopped up truck with a rifle in the rear window. And so on. These all present unique possibilities for risk. Like it or not, LEOs have to make certain assumptions about the potential danger of a situation in order to be prepared for the possibilities. Sometimes sheltered citizens don't like to hear about the bad things, so instead of pulling the covers off of everyone's head, the LEOs just prepare for the worst and do the job.

I'm familiar with lawless societies, and for those of you who aren't...well, I suspect you'd like the police a lot more if you were.

Enjoy the ride.

Now THAT I have a problem with!

man you guys are completely missing my point

thanks again for the insults

I don't think I'm special (just hate to see my personal freedoms eroding away), definately not a wanna-be (I'm not, don't claim to be, nor want to lead the "Biker" lifestyle, I enjoy riding my dual-sport, my rice-rocket, and my Harley) don't think I'm a badass, don't have or carry a bad attitude, I respect but dislike the way most cops treat people (at least around where I live), and this topic just reminds me far too much of MANY unnecessary "shows of force" that happen all the time around here on the east coast.

It's the same thing as if someone was going to have a gun show, would you bring in dozens of ATF agents to pat down and metal search everyone? No
At rock concerts, does the DEA bring in dozens of drug-sniffing dogs to walk the masses? No.

and yes, I also have a beef with sobriety check-points (although I don't drink and drive, and never had a DUI) and I also disagree with banning smoking in outdoor public places (although I don't smoke) and I disagree with New York, DC, and Sanfrancisco's unconstitutional gun bans(the criminals there have guns, why can't their intended victims?), I also disagree with seat belt and helmet laws(if you choose not to protect yourself, it can harm only you, and no one else, that should be your personal choice and decision), I also disagree with the drinking age being at 21 instead of 18, like the cliche goes, you can vote, be drafted and die for your Country, but you can't drink a beer...

all of these things are unnecessary and infringing on personal freddoms.

You all need to move to another Country pick one, any one.... most of them are "Police States" where you can injoy the false notion that the Police will protect you from everything at all times, and you are personaly not allowed to defend yourself, nor anyone else. It's called socialism, communism, ****-ism, fascism, etc., and so-on.... the leftist Democratic movements in the this Country in the last 40 years have pushed us ever-so close to those conditions. Police "shows-of-force" are both evidence and further catalysts to this demise. Profiling is OK, as long as you're just looking and keeping an eye out... but acting on profiling is harassment, and constitutes the "illegal search" part of the 'protection from illegal search and seizure Amendment.'

And for those of you who keep touting more Govenrment, more laws, more police, I only have one last thing to say...in the words of Benjamin Franklin "Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security, Deserve And Receive Neither."

I'm not a LEO, past or present. I've only been in close proximity to real-life OMG members once that I remember. My perspective is simply this; If you don't like being perceived and treated like you were a poisionous snake, then don't imitate one!

Although I'm certainly able to arm myself both legally and constitutionally where I live, I am certain that I would come under very close scrutiny should I decide to sling a semi-auto AK47 (legal weapon, mind you) over my shoulder and walk through town with it displayed out in the open. Would that be harassment? No. The LEOs would be doing exactly what we pay them to do - work to protect society as a whole. And, BTW...good job guys. I really appreciate all that you do!

"LT753
You've lost your mind. All they are doing is making sure to keep themselves safe and "respectful" in case a situation occurs. Maybe you should talk about something you know instead of silly junk like this. GOOD GRIEF. Get real. Lynn (21 yr LEO)... Just guessing, but if I was a betting man I'd say that your probably just a want-to-be. Those that you claim to be protesting for are probably reading your post and laughing at you."

"KRATC
Right on BRO. He must be a pencil pushing you know what. I'm not a LEO but my brother (25 yrs retired), & two cousin (20yrs each)"

its not discrmination its the same as racial profiling... call a spade a spade I think profiling is a necessary evil in these times"

...You are riding with a bunch of guys, probably wearing leather, looking like hardasses... If you look the part of a biker-badass, a gang-banger, or anything else I deem suspicous I will take note of you... I just get tired of hearing "you only stopped me because I'm _______ " It's ridiculous. Lay with dogs and you'll get fleas... I don't blame them. Better safe than sorry as far as I see. I would rather deal with the minor inconvienence and be safe... You ride a Harley, you're in a big group, you have your german helmet and you leathers on....you look the part. Walks like a duck, looks like a duck, quacks like a duck...Maybe the cops should check and see if is a duck... I'd rather be held up for a minute then have cops not paying attention to current issues ... Hell, what do I know? I guess cops should worry less about crime and using what they know to figure out who is most likely to start trouble...and worry more about the people's emotional well-being...

"cosmo glider
My reply is the sooner the legal system can shed the skin of political correctness and allow the LEO's to bust all these thugs the better off society and me will be."

WAHH......harassment.....WAHH...profiling....WAHH. ...stereotyping...WAHH...I'm being stopped again....WAHH......discrimination... you've done no wrong, guess what?....Your inconvenienced abit and everyone ELSE is a bit safer"

Those ridining in OMG's understand that the LEO's are on the lookout for criminal activityand know that based on their associaitons that they are at risk of being stopped and detained while the officer conducts their investigation. It is the MC that makes the decision for the whole gang to pullover in a show of force when an LEO conducts a stop of one of their members."

Well, I guess all you guys would be happy if everyone was forced to wear government-issued motorcycle riding uniforms??? which would probably be a flourescent color of orange or pink... after all, that would keep us from being harassed, lo

As yet, NOBODY (LEOs) has explained just why they would even want to stop a formation ride, but, bu God, they have a "plan" and a briefing and a checklist!

This thread has gotten completely out of hand. I've reread the first post on the training and nowhere does it say they are going to stop all groups of bikes or even the Angels if they ride through town. All they are talking about is training for the what if we need to stop a large group.

This forum is meant to be fun. We don't want to get all pissy with each other and make enemies. I'm going to lock this thread now so that we can move on to something more constructive. Let's all go have a beer.
