Grumpy,

At least here, if you keep good service records, not doing the service at the dealer will not void your warranty. Might be different across the pond.

I've got a service manual, and I fully intend to do it myself because a) cost, and b) its almost a 300 mile round trip to the nearest dealer. However, a friend of mine lost out on getting some warranty work done because he had done his own 10,000 service. Now, I'm not sure if that's because he didn't try (or try hard enough). Either way, he's riding around with a noise (which doesn't sound too good in my opinion) coming from his clutch or transmission which he can't/won't get seen to.[]

I reckon its not worth the hassle for the sake of the cost of a couple of services. I do an extra oil change between the 5,000 service intervals and make sure I get HD oil and filters and keep the receipts.

Grumpy, your friend outta contact the Motor Co., the dealers just being an Adam Henry and needs to get set straight.
