I am from New Zealand and ride a 2001 Deuce. I want to ride Coast to Coast across the USA and buy a new Road King on which to do it. Which State has the lowest sales tax and least emission control laws so I dont waste money on State sales tax or have to rip off the emission controls that I have already paid for?

well I got a pretty good deal on my night train in North Carolina, one of my friends is a pretty good friend with the sales manager at Ray Price HD. And if you want to drive across the US they are just few miles from I-40 wich runs from North Carolina to California, but I would take back roads instead of major highways. Anyway I hope you find what you are looking for, that you get a good deal and that you enjoy your trip.

 

Pennsylvania sales tax is 6%.

 

Do not buy in California or New York. No sales tax in place like the New Hampshire.

 

I would think you would be better off buying in Florida. Riding to California and shipping from there. Shipping is about 1,300.00 Plus about $200.00 to crate it up. Now you just have to pay your import taxes.

Delaware has no sales tax. Mikes Harley Davidson has 2 stores there. They are a bit pricey though......

 

Buy it in New Hampshire No Sales Taxes.

 

Good idea (Florida). Don't buy anything in Cali, especially if it has a motor on or in it. You'll get raped on the sales tax and emission controls...

 

It shouldn't matter where you buy it. It will matter where you register it as far as how much sales tax.

If you are from New Zealand do you have a way to register it in the U.S.?

 

Oregon doesn't have sales tax either, at least the last time I heard. Don't buy in california, because of the smog equipment if possilbe. I forgot that when I bough tmy last bike. Oh well. Better performance without smog equipment.
