Any suggestions??
You will not have any problem finding a room in daytona even if you don't have reservations. The economy has really taken a toll on the attendance.

For the past several years, our group has stayed at Perry's Ocean Edge on the beach on A1A. Huge rooms... 2 queen beds and a queen sleep sofa, plus a full kitchen. We get ground floor rooms, they have a back door out to picnic tables overlooking the ocean, and do most of our drinking sitting out there at night once the bikes are parked for the evening so we don't have to drink and ride. The rooms run about $200 a night. They had vacancies this past biketoberfest, which was unusual but will probably be normal from here on out with the economy. This hotel used to be very close to all the action ,but since most of the stuff has moved out to Ormond, its a little off the beaten path, but still good access to anywhere you need to go.

Every time I or anyone I know has been there are room available for cheap. Usually stay at the La Quinta right on the beach and just north of Main St. If you buy in advance you pay double or triple with multiple day minimums. Just show up you'll be fine.

I would stay in St. Augustine and ride on A1A down the beach. It is a fabulous ride to Daytona. And, you can have the world's best shrimp at Barnacle Bill's--get the Datil Fried Shrimp plate.

On the way down, cut off the slab at Orange Park and then cut across the river at Green Cove Springs and follow Road 13 to East Palatka and then south on Road 100. When you finish the trip, you will have seen the best of North Florida. Just keep an eye out for deer and bear.

Enjoy the ride.

We always stay at the Regency Inn at St Augustine Beach. I just got back from Florida Tuesday, damn it was cold!! Stopped at the Regency to make reservations ($74.95 a night, last year $89.95) Bill said it was the slowest it's been in 12 years. Come on up, beautiful ride on A1A in the morning. I do hope it warms up some though.

You know, I understand people saying attendance might be down, and I understand that. And even though it's not even close to the same time of year, I wonder w/ all the problems at Myrtle Beach, if some people might go to Daytona, that don't normally go, instead of going to Myrtle?

If you would like to go to some event in the SE, and Myrtle was previously more convenient for you, maybe you go to Daytona instead? I know it crossed my mind, I only live a few hrs from Myrtle and am very familiar with it, going there for golf and family vacations in the past, but now I don't even want to go there.

Problem for me w/ Daytona is the timing, I'm supposed to be in Vegas that week.
