Has anyone gone from a bagger back to a...

My last bike was a Yamaha,Venture Royale. I had no complaints with it, but I rarely took it on a long trip. That's why I bought a Softail, instead of a Touring model, when I got my Harley. I haven't regretted it. I missed having storage, so I added saddlebags. My Fat Boy fits my riding style and conditions, better then a Touring model.

I bought a 74 sporty as a basket case. I always wanted one, and at the time it was a cheap way to get on a Harley. At the time my daily ride was a 99 Honda Shadow Aero 1100. Before I finished the Sporty, however, I had an opportunity to get a deal on a used 01 Ultra. I grabbed the Ultra, and just recently finished my chop/restoration of the Sporty. Now I have the best of both.

I've often thought about moving from my Ultra Classic to a Softail Custom. My Ultra is nice, but I have a bum knee. Moving the bike around in the garage is difficult. I also think the Softail Custom is a better looking bike.

I'm debating cutting my Super Glide loose for an RK, but I really like the feel of my Dyna. Easy to park and move around the garage. Good around town. Short 200 mile trips no problem. If I was to be completely honest with myself, a Street Bob or a Crossbones would better suit my riding style and personality. The RK comes closest to have both utility and looks when the windshield is pulled.

I think that if you can only have one bike and want to do everything (touring, cruising, etc.) with just one bike that the baggers are the only way to go. I actually like the handling and feel of the baggers better, even though they are a little heavier.
If you aren't going to do any touring, then the Dynas and Softtails are awesome.

I'd never want to go back to a little bike , but wouldn't mind getting a softail to jet around on days when I don't need to carry anything , more a power to wieght issue than comfort .Would have to be in addition to the Ultra.

I didn't go back, but I just bought a Cross Bones to go with my Street Glide. Very pleased with both. I wanted a bike to ride when my G.F. wants to ride beside me on her Sportster and not as my passenger. If I had to choose between one or the other, not really sure...probably the Bones.
