Gym/Tennis Shoes: while riding?
#12
always ride with boots. Here is the reason why: Was riding, took corner too fast. bike leaned over and skidded on the crash bars. My left foot was pulled backwards under the left saddlebag. If i didnt have on good leather boots my toes would have been gone. dont get cheap or be stupid. wear the right gear.

I used to wear boots while riding pretty much all the time but I found they don't always protect you as well as you think they might. (See picture below of boot and ground-down foot-peg). I'll spare you the pictures of my foot that was in that boot. I had a 2005 Yamaha Warrior and man that bike could handle, but I had scraped the footpegs down to razor-sharp points on both sides from going through lots of corners a severe lean angles. I crashed the bike and the left peg cut through my boot (tore the boot completely off of my foot) and then proceeded to cut through my heel until it hit bone. Shattered three bones in the heel area of my left foot. Depending on the weather, some days I still walk with a limp. Now I wear boots if I feel like it or my "vintage" 1984 high-top Nikes. The moral of this story is: if you have sharpened pegs from grinding, REPLACE THEM. NOW.

I nearly always wear tennis shoes because thats what I wear to work. If I am on a weekend ride I wear boots. I still can't get used to seeing so many people wear shorts in the summertime. Seems to be a bagger thing.

Would never wear any type of soft soled shoe on a bike. I always wear boots. I buy comfortable boots that I can wear all day at work. Not a problem. But then, I figure it's just like choosing to wear or not wear a helmet, or any other safety gear - it's up to each individual rider to choose the level of protection and risk with which they are comfortable.
