badinfluence-thanks for the input. you basically confirmed my thoughts and the thoughts of others. Keep the 03 and get a project bike. I also like the thought of haste and regret. I have to slow down on this so i don't regret something done in haste, which I almost did, but sure glad I did not.
In reguards to gear driven cams on the 03, I went with Andrews 26g, adjustable pushrods,PC3, and other assorted bits and pieces. i gained 8hp and about 10# of torque. Not huge, but great for me. Makes me happy.
Good luck on your stuff, thanks again, Happy Holidays!

I hope you are able to economically posture yourself to accomplish this. Its a lot of fun with lots of ups and downs. There is a far bigger selection with stuff then 25+ years ago. More expensive too. I purchased all the major components before I started. I used existing front end w/ 21" wheel, gas tank, carb(Zenith Bendix)and rear fender. Used same tranny and motor(Pan). Frame, rear breaks, handle bars w/ risers, suicide shift set up and open primary belt were the only purchases I think I remember having to make.

Complete cheap sportsters out there for under 3000$. Sportsters equal 4 cams and they look real good on a rigid. You build it right and asthetically, you will even make a profit when or if you sell it. Build it and it looks like sheit you can't give it away, lol.

Happy Holidays to you and your too.

FTW
