I know a guy who used to have a diesel VW Jetta, and when he let a friend borrow it, the guy filled it up with gasoline. Needless to say he started it, drove forward about 20 feet and the engine grenaded.

OK, what would happen if you deliberately stuck say a mug full of diesel in a full tank once in a while for some upper cylinder lubrication?

Used to do that actually. We would let the tank run down to less than a quarter tank and put in maybe an eighth of a tank, run out to the next station and darken the highways, then filler up. Cleaned out the car really well, ran great, better mileage for awhile. Not to sure how environ mentally safe it is. I'm sure if there is a greeny around (used to be a term for a booger now a proud environ mentallist name) I will hear about it.
