Keep a roll of black elec tape in your tool bag and when it starts to rain just wrap it around the forks above the tire. When you sit on it and load the forks it will sit down on the tire. I used to run a an ol 78 flh that the fender fell off and I never ran one again on that bike. The tape worked well in a pinch.

Back in the day, we used to run without front fenders (or front brakes). The interesting part was that the water hitting you from the sky was cool and the stream up the middle being thrown up off the road by the front tire was warm. Anyway, fenders are better (as are brakes).

I run w/o a front fender on my HD and old Triumph.
Rain isn't a big deal if you prepare for it. If the forecast
shows rain, its only 4 bolts to put the fender back on.
If you think it looks cool, then do it.
