$850 is about as overkill as it gets for a pair of chaps. The only thing that could make chaps worth that kind of price is if the pockets (and they'd better have pockets for that price) were stuffed with hundred dollar bills!

Thanks for all the info. The Fox Creek stuff looks nice. About the same money as the HD chaps. The HD chap pictures on the HD website suck. I will have to go to the local stealer to look at them. I think I will also hit up the local Horse Town Western Store. How important is the covered side zipper flap that Fox Creek uses as far as wind and rain protection goes?

heres a dumb question, clown all your want

Leather pants, wear them over jeans or not necessary? I know with chaps you can just throw them over your jeans but when your done riding you can take them off and throw them in your tour packs (if you have them) so ya dont sweat to death.. But the leather pants?

was a serious question, do you wear them over your jeans or not necessary?

You can wear them over your jeans as I do. Langlitz westerns can be sized the way you want to. My wife wears her's on her skin alone. I wear jeans under mine and we both have the long 30" zippers to take them off easily and with your boots on if you want. I've posted pics here before of them. One of the best things I ever bought.
