Motorcycling is very ZEN-like.... the more you ride, the more you learn, the more you learn, the more you learn the more there is to be learned.

Cagers aren't bad... they're just isolated in their steel covered rolling livingrooms.... going from one box to another box, by riding in a box....

You have learned your lessons well. I say we give him his Diploma and he can continue on to "Graduate School". BTW You never finish Grad School cause you are constantly learning.... until they put ya in the ground.

I'm not as insightful as you Adrian so I hope you don't mind that I just copied your post and forwarded it to my OL. She never really has understood my passion for riding and you did such a great job with this that I thought I would let her read it and maybe she might understand a little better.
When she occasionally brings up the subject I just say "Cause I've always done it and it's what I like to do". I don't think my answer conveys the reasons as well as yours does.
Anyhow...Hope you don't mind that I sent it to her. I did give you credit as the author.

No way man! I think that its AWESOME that you did that man. Hopefully she'll understand.. my girl definitely knows and understands.. hell, she loves to ride with me as much as I love to ride, so that works out great!

Thanks for the words of encouragement all.. definitely have a strong passion for the ride!

I think I learned that when I first spent $950 on my first modification.. pipes, PCIII and ness big sucker, due to the suggestions of..... THIS FORUM!!!! haha, oh man oh man..

Forgot to add one more thing!

13) A LOT, and I mean a LOT of people look at you funny for having "Under 21" on your license plate! Well, simply, I just tell them "What were you doing when you were 20? Riding rice?" And they just agree and nod there head in approval.. Love to learn from the older experienced riders though!

I'm 21 finally, so I don't get that look anymore, but it was pretty funny the first several months.

CAGERS SUCK!!!

1) When your turning right in a turning lane at a stop light, never go into the first lane until all the lanes are clear. You won't believe the amount of people that will change lanes in an intersection with any acknowledgement to the person in that turning lane.

2) Cagers are A-L-W-A-Y-S in a rush to get to there destination. Do not, and I mean DO NOT, let cagers rush you. Drive at your own pace, and if you have to make a cager wait behind you because you don't feel comfortable turning, then MAKE THEM WAIT.

3) My wallet has never been the same since owning this motorcycle. Definitely have been a LOT more poor!

4) Nothing is better then the wind in your face!

5) Rain, pretty much sucks, but can be quite fun and funny when riding with other buddies in the rain without having any rain gear on, and you hear everyone screaming "Oh, ****!! DAMN IT!!"

6) Having a woman that supports your Harley purchases is a woman worth keeping. And luckily, I have found one!

7) Riding against strong winds, on the highway at long distances and 70 MPH+ is not fun.

8) Never thought I'd EVER be wrenching my own ride. Guess I was wrong...........

9) Always CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE! I'm really lazy when it comes to doing that, and one day I went out to check it and my front tire was at 18 PSI. NOT GOOD!

10) Woman get turned on by Harleys.. don't know what it is, but they really are chick magnets!

11) You really DO gain a 6th sense when riding. Its amazing how much more aware I've become since I've started riding everyday.

12) HDForums R-O-C-K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And most importantly, being that I ride my bike EVERY day without exception, I'll say it once and I'll say it again....

THE POSITIVE OUTWEIGHS THE NEGATIVE!! Riding a motorcycle every day is just the best, and I realized that tonight when I had to take the car out tonight with the woman, and had to hit a sharp turn that I LOVE to ride on with my bike. Was just not nearly as fun! Yeah it sucks getting caught in the rain when your not prepared, yeah it sucks having to worry wether or not the damn cager is going to cut you off or not, but there is just nothing better then owning a Harley!

Enjoy your rides guys, and don't take it for granted! Just thought I'd share.

I'm sure there are plenty of things that I forgot to leave out, but thats just what came to the top of my head. Feel free to add anything.

Cheers,
Adrian

As long as you keep learning and not forgetting...........Huh

Longevity is the key. Survival in the jungle and the inherent 6th sense that if we listen to it, keeps us rolling. Drop your guard just one time.................

Wish you many 2 wheeled years and miles.

In 68' I learned not to do wheelies behind the school bus to impress your friends...driver had a warped sense of humor and would brake check ya!
