Anyone that thinks a Harley shouldn't be loud obviously needs some chlorine in their end of the gene pool.

If he couldn't hear his radio , he was obviously FOLLOWING TOO CLOSELY! A citable offense.

The thing is, here in California it is illegal to modify your exhaust system. It has nothing to do with the decibel level. I wasn't aware of the 9" rule for the width between rear signals. Although most police won't site you for loud mufflers, there are other things that come into the equation, a bad cup of morning coffee, missing a promotion, etc. One way to keep from getting a fix-it ticket for pipes is to replace your stock set with something a little more mild. Of course with your ticket you're going to have to go back to stock to get it written off.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to cause problems. I like louder than stock myself. I'm just saying what's legal and what's not.

What is the fine in California if you DON'T get it fixed. I got fix it ticket the other day in front of Sagebrush Cantina. I really dont want to go buy a set of stock pipes to put on for one day. I realize my V&H Side Shots are loud, but, didn't know they were illegal.

Sorry thats not true, you can modify exhaust, just not to increase noise past federal standards and not in a manner to increase emissions. On my Road Glide, my Vance & Hines ovals are completely legal according to CARB.

I don't know, I can ask my buddy who is a Sheriff's deputy and see what he says.

Somewhere else on this forum someone accuse me of living in a 'nanny' world in Europe for traffic rules. He called it 'socialistic'. But when I read here some reactions and about the regulations in the States, you guys have also very strict regulations. Even more strict than we in Europe. We may change our exhausts as lon we make not too much noise. That's why I invented the adjustable BAVO dB killer for my Heritage Classic. Normally 'silent' but in open position load roaring when I want to. Just mounted in my S&S 3" slip on's, so I can ride with the dB production as I like (or is regulated).

He didn't have to scratch you. He had complete discretion whether to pinch you or warn you.

That's why I would never live in California--too close to living in Europe, or even the U.S.S.R.
