The "sturgis" in the big picture is not correct.I has a final chain drive. The "real" one `s have a belt drive secondary as you know if you have the rest of the bike.I believe the original exhaust would have the cross-over which went under/behind the carb.I had (in attic) the original pipes off my old `81 low rider.I`ll look and see if I didn`t throw them away after all these years.Good
luck with your retoration.Go to a bigger swap meet and someone there should have a set of head pipes to fit an `80 shovel.Toby
The 80-81 have the 2into 1's , my 82 has no crossover on factory drag pipes , AND NEITHER do the original non amf fxb of the ( original 14 ) that willie g and co. took on the 650 mile ride from factory to factory when they came out that year , some have crossovers , some dont !
1980 fxb shovelhed and I'm having some challenges with my exhaust hook up because the stud broke off and I re-tapped it but it's not sealing up any suggestions
Kind of an old thread, can't imagine you aren't finished yet, but IMHO the Hunting Harleys guy (Todd) is the best and he has a short youtube of a Sturgis (maybe 2) and I think it's '80 or '81. Mean lookin' machine.
I just got a 80 FXB a couple months ago..it's mostly stock except for the exhaust, seat and carb setup..let me know if you need any closeup pics i you're still working on this!
