Maybe rent a bike and ride

I rented a Heritage Softy out of Santa Cruz a few years back and they charged me a hundred for the weekend, picked it up Friday night and Returned it Monday morning. The reason it was so cheap is that the weather sucked all week and 2 minutes after I picked it up the clouds parted and the sun came out.

I rented a road king last year and it was a $2000 dep (refundable upon return) and $130/day out of Charlotte, NC. I probably would have never done it, but I got 2 days as a gift. I ended up adding two days to it. I had an extended weekend and made the most of it.

I rented an Ultra Classic last spring for a 2500 mi road trip to the east coast with my wife.
Total cost was about $700 for a week.
Week days are usually cheaper - weekends get you.
I Highly recommend it!!!!
Great way to really test ride a new bike.
I ended up buying the same bike a month later!
As far as expense - make sure you get ALL the insurance you'll need to CYA.
Other then that - unless you rack up the miles - it's probably cheaper to rent
then own. Think about it....
Once again I'd do it in a heartbeat if I need to.
Had a buddy rent one this summer for another 1500 mi road trip through WV.
Things you should check out:
Get adequate insurance especially gap!
Can your current motorcycle coverage be modified to cover the rental? Mine couldn't.
Can you ride during the week - it's cheaper.
Check rental prices between dealers - I found one $100's less then my local dealer.

I rented a Heritage Softail Classic for 2 days during Biketoberfest. Picked it up in Jacksonville, then road it to Daytona and surrounding area. In fact the rental guy told me I put enough miles on it to retire it from the fleet...
I will do it again it a heart beat!

I'm on the road most of the time and rent when I can. I've used "EagleRider and they have given me a bike for $99.00 a day a couple of times.
The bikes are clean late model and seem to be well maintained.
It's the only thing that keeps me semi sane out here.
