How much better is the 1584 to the 1450?
#21
The '02 hands down. That was the last year for Timken crank bearings (desirable). The '06 Dynas have a unique problem with the inner primary bearing, they seem to last only about 10,000 miles and the MoCo has yet to provide a permanent fix. The only down side for the '02 is the cam chain tensioners, and that's easily fixed with geardrive cams.

I would go for the 02 also. The 02 is a better starting point to build performance and you get the wide glide front end Just an all around great bike and the one you are looking at is VERY low mileage. Good luck man

I am looking at 4 differrent used bikes right now. Biggest differrence is the engine size. 2 are the 06 Dyna 1584, 1 is an 06 Dyna 1450, and 1 is an 02 1450. I am trying to do research on the specific horsepower of the 02, but not getting anywhere. How much better is the jump to a 1584? Is it worth $1,500 difference? I was thinking that the 02 comes with many items I'd like to have eventually, so I'd go for that one for now and if extra HP is needed, I can always do some engine mods this winter.
Is it possible to make a 1450 into a 1584 or better?
I like to go fast around the corners, but enjoy comfort on the ride much more. I hate to have buyer's regret 2 weeks from now, so if anyone wants to chime in their opinion, please feel free to contribute.
Here's the specs I have for each bike I'm considering. 3 are in the area, and 1 is on Ebay in VT.
1. 2002 Dyna FX?WG 1450, 2,700 miles!, HD red/black flames paint scheme, all chromed, Chrome wire rims w 21" front, saddlebags, 2 HD half helmets, mustang and corbin seats w/Rider/passenger backrests. all for $9,000
2. 2006 Dyna FXDCI SG 1450, 5,000 miles, std paint, all chromed, polished 9 spoke rims stock 2 up seat. $9,000
3. 2006 Dyna FXD SG 1584, 6K miles, std paint, minimum chrome, std 9 spoke wheels(black spokes). $9,000
4. 2006 Dyna FXD SG 1584, 6K miles, std paint, minimum chrome, std wheels. $9,500 ($8,900 + $600 shipping from VT)

I say get the one you want the most. I have no experience with the 88, or the 96 motors. My only experience is with the 1340 (80 cid) and 5 speeds. It did everything I wanted it to do, and then some. Had more than enough power for me (and we're talking a 24 year old at the time) and rode 2 up like it was nothing. So if you like the 88 inch WG, get it.

Actually my *** must just be numb, because I've never really noticed a significant difference in vibration between a softtail and dyna.
