BTW, any bike can get you hurt real quick.
Ya just have to be careful.

Taking the MSF course would give her a relatively risk-free chance to see how she feels and give her the chance to learn valuable info. Also, these courses are given by people who have sen it all and know how to handle fragile confidence in learners. I've never ridden a trike, but as I remember all the problems from the early 3-wheel ATVs I think trikes have their own inherent quirks that can make them difficult to ride. I'll always believe that buying a used Honda Rebel, or similar bike, is the best way to start. My $.02.

In the MSF course here in NYC they taught us on Suzuki 250's. We had a couple of SMALL women in the class, and one of them dropped hers a couple of times at first, but finished the class with a perfect score on the performance test. It was a real confidence builder for her.

Hi Budnlucy,

I'm faspony's wife, I just completed the MSF and I was scared out of my mind before and while I was taking the MFS course. I had bought a new Suzuki S-50 800cc thinking I could ride it with no problem. I dumped it the second time out and hadn't riden it until I took the MFS course. I should have bought a 250cc or smaller to learn on. I too was afraid of the balance of a bike until I rode the 2500cc bike used in the MSF.
Tell your sister she can over come the fear of riding, I have and now enjoy my own bike.

Good Luck

Yay faspony's wife! Way to go! You should start your own thread on MSF and the insecurities of starting out! Great job!

In June my wife had never ridden a motorcycle, nothing with a clutch, and not much on a bicycle. She took the MSF course4 and now she rides her Sportster to work.

Sounds as though most of us agree the best thing would be to take the MSF course and then see what her outlook is on the subject!
