Sounds like you did all you could Salty.
If anything happens to me on the road,
I hope someone like you is there for me.

two things to say, first, you are fine example of American. You have taken on a job that does not have any financial rewards. I know there are many instances of positive outcomes in your past and the future. Our society could not function without people ,like you, who serve their community.
Second is, I know seperating you job from your playtime is not always easy. The more you enjoy something the harder it is to get over, when a tragic event occurs. You have a wife, amine is my best-friend, talk to her and your other friends about it. It is not the trauma you saw it was the wreck itself. Overtime, it will never just be a story, but it will stop bothering you. Not talking about it will just make you carry it around longer.

It hurts all the way around. Who knows why things happen.
While we will never know what the rider was doing, I talked to one rider who took a GW trike demo off-road in a curve because he tried to counter-steer.
Prayers for the family.

Accident Response
As a volunteer firefighter of over 30 years, I've seen my share of tragedy from children being removed from a fire after a frantic search to seniors who did not make if off their couch due to smoke inhalation and not being found until after the fire was extinguished.
Take comfort in that you did all that you could, even if he had passed before he hit the sign. I can't agree more with getting some counseling or speaking to someone, it is very important not to let this ruin all of the good work that you have done and will continue to do once the initial shock has passed.
We don't get paid for this stuff because we don't need to be paid, it is done out of a sense of community, giving back, whatever you want to call it and for me, that is the true spirit of this country. I hope that everything works out for the best.

You did everything that you could, it can only be accepted as one of those things that can't be controlled. I worked as an EMT-I in Ohio for 4 years and have a lot of memories from the terrible things I've seen that I'll always carry around with me. Been through the CISD sessions which weren't always a help.
