Gas mileage on 2009 Ultra Classic...
#11
Not better than mine! My car averages in the mid 30's most of the time. The 08 UC I rented last April netted me in the mid 42's on most tanks but that was on country roads in the hill country of Texas where cruising speeds were generally less than 60 to 65 mph. The lowest tank was 100% freeway riding at 75 mph against a nice headwind and it averaged just over 33 mpg. It may depend on the individual bike. Gasahol blends don't usually deliver as good mileage numbers because ethanol doesn't have the energy per gallon as straight gasoline does. I've also found, and I mean no insult to anyone here on this, that most folks I've met that "think" they ride or drive in an economical manner really don't. Most of us have greatly differing reference points for what constitutes "Granny driving." I've always been tickled by that reference because I've seen some Granny's that scare the he** out of me!

I am just quoting what an employee told me. "we have had very good luck with slip-on's and a down load" those are his exact words. I believe a stock engine and stock pipes will give you the very best mileage possible. I will find out, because I will not be making any changes to the performance of the bike I will receive in mid NOV.

On my '07 Ultra I was getting similar mpg, around 38 combined, until about 1,000 miles when it began to increase. Around 3,000 miles it was getting about 45 combined, and up to 46-50 riding 2-up 70-75 mph.

He works for a dealership, perhaps he didn't know what he was talking about. I'm not sure myself. I'm sure there are many different application with and without downloads. But, anytime you start changing things on a stock engine of any kind you will more than likely need to compensate somewhere else.

Just got mine 09 ultra last Thursday and put 500 miles on it as of yesterday. I am running 92 octane and got 36 mpg cobined city and highway for these miles. I asked the dealer today about it and he was clueless as to what it should get.
I had an 06 RG and it was getting 43 to 46 mpg when I traded it in onthis bike with 15800 miles on it.
I am putting Rinehart slipons and stage 1 with the ECM flash so I believe it will get better as time goes on. I remeber the milage on the RG being about the same on intitial break in.
By the way I see post one here with poeple saying they are still in braek in with close to 2k on their bikes. The manual and dealer sais break in is 500 miles then have at it. What gives?

300 lbs total weight
75mph
15-20 mph crosswinds
Should be closer to 40 mpg but 35 mpg isn't too far out of line for a new bike and it should get a little better once everything is seated and settled.
Could be better but my Y2K Road King with mild mods get a little less than 35 mpg under similar conditions except I ride solo but weigh about 290 lbs.
