Question about heated vest?
#11
I think what fooled me is that the liner itself takes the heat from my body when I'm wearing it. This is what I did: I plugged it in in my (cold) garage and I walked away for 10 minutes. It was still cold when I came back. So I wrote an email to the Web site where I bought it. Since I'm realy cheap, I bought the liner from the Gerbing outlet store and they say all sales are final. But I will argue that the product should at least be in working condition. If that doesn't work, Gerbing garantees the heated elements for life. But that will take time.
Now I know that the snow will get here before I get a working heated vest. #$&^^%%$!
Thanks for all your help.

I live near the Gerbing company and they have always been extremely helpful and routinely make good on their product. If it is not working they will make an exchange or repair yours. I have their liner and it gets warm almost right away. The harness hooks directly to the battery and then an on/off relay is attached to the jacket and then to the harness (or a relay with a termostat). Are you running directly to the liner from the battery? Ask Gerbing but the switch relay may be required. Only about $12.

Spike, a heat thermostat is recommended but I don't think it's necessary. The only complaint I've read about not having a switch or a thermostat is that the linet gets too warm.... not the case here.
Right now, I'm looking at using something to try to isolate the problem. I'm trying to find a 12-volt cigarette plug that plugs in the harness so that I can charge up my cell phone (for example). They make that for the BMW but not for a cigarette plug. I just want to know if I messed up installing the harness.
So far, no luck. That's what happens when you buy from an outlet. Will I ever learn?

My mistake!
I decided to get the owner's manual out.... and I found out that I did something wrong. I didn't install the harness properly. I had tied the rings to the cables that lead to the batterie terminals and not to the terminals themselves.
Everything I do on my bike, I seem to have to do it twice to get it right. At least I'm learning something!
Thanks for the help.
BTW, I can really feel the heat now! No question about it.

Thanks. I got that one pretty easy since the connections are reverse...! The ones for the gloves are in the sleeves. Foolproof for me!
