I think he should ride, if that's what he wants. As a friend though, I'd probably recommend a much smaller bike, and some dirt time or abandoned area time, until he learns to turn his head like an owl.

It's one thing to lose an eye after riding for a number of years. It's totally different having never ridden before. You lose all your depth perception, and your peripheral vision on that side.

Like any disability, the other senses are heightened to compensate for it.
I wouldnt worry about it. If he can ride at all, he'll probably make a better rider than most of us
When I drove a truck, there were 2 drivers I really looked up to. Both with 2 million mile safety pins. One was color blind, and the other cyclops. I was good, but they ran circles around me. I dont doubt handicaps

If he been blind in one eye for a while he should be adapted to only having one eye. Just if you ride with him stay on his good side.

local guy I have know for over 11 years has been riding his 59 Panhead 365 days a year and he ain't puttin around. once you are used to the loss of depth perception you do ok.

My wife is blind in one eye, has been since a bad surgery when she was little, she rides and loves it and is great at it, she is more careful at stops signs looking both ways than most two eyed folks, I'd say she is a better rider than a lot of them because she knows her limitation and how to overcome it. Encourage him and let him feel the wind......

If I lost an eye, I'd consider it a good excuse to wear an eye patch while riding.

Have you seen any of the 2 eyed drivers out there lately? I would prob'ly feel safer with him out there, than those with 2 eyes. He'll for sure be paying attention. JMFUO
hits the nail right on the head gump. The roads are full of not caring non drivin *****. If he cares about what he is doing he is better off than 90% of the people out there

Thank you all for your input. My doubts are gone, and I am MUCH more comfortable with his decision now.
Just watch out for the pirate biker! (I will be riding on his LEFT)

+1 on taking the MSF safety class... if he wants to ride? then he should learn the right way.
A good friend of mine was born without sight in one eye, he's ridden a bike all his life, his current bike is a 98 Ultra. I won't let him lead....but that's more a function of my friend, then his one-sightedness
