Default Stripped Allen Head....???

While changing my oil for the first time today, I realized the drain on my primary is stripped... The head is stripped... It's a 3/16 allen head, or should be. How do I get this out?

Thanks..

I did search older posts and didn't find an answer..

The best way is drilling it and using an screw extractor out, but I've also had success hammering a torx bit into the head if it's not too chewed up.

+1 for hammering in a torx head, then if that fails cut the slot.

I'm just going from memory, but I thought they were suppose to be a #40 Torx. I know mine wasn't that size, It was a #30 Torx. Either way I don't believe it is suppose to be an Allen head size. That is why it probably stripped. On a maintenance video from Expert Village the tech suggested replacing the primary drain plug every time you change the primary oil. I don't.

On newer HDs the plug has a external hex head and an internal allen. Remember the plug goes into a aluminum casting. Don't over torque the plug.

Screw Extractor is the easiest by far. I have done it myself. You can find one at Home Depot.

I just had the same deal. Thought the drain plug was a #27 Torx. A #27 will get it loose a time or two before it gives way. I bought a new plug and then realized a #27 is slightly loose. Then I wised up and started using a #30.

Be real careful with the cutting a slot thing, that can actually make matters worse. If it stays stuck even after the Torx suggestions, you might try putting a small bolt inside thhe whole and JB Welding it in there. Then after it dries good you could turn the bolt to extract it.
