Default Highway Peg Mounting Questions

I'm thinking about putting highway pegs on the engine guard of my 2008 FLHX. I've heard that it takes some messing around to get them right where you want them so I'm wondering if the adjustable ones are superior to just the straight mount kit. Here's what the newest P&A Catalog shows for my choices:

1) 50957-02A Chrome Billet Engine Guard Footpeg Mounting Kit $100
2) 50832-07A Adjustable Highway Peg Mounting Kit - 360 Degree $110
3) 50827-07A Adjustable Highway Peg Mounting Kit - Long Offset $130
4) 50828-07A Adjustable Highway Peg Mounting Kit - Short Offset $130
5) 50964-98 Engine Guard Footpeg Mounting Kit $40

My questions:

1) The adjustable items are $60 to $90 more than the standard mounting kit (choice 5 above). Once you get them where you want them, do you move them around any more? In other words, what are you paying the premium price for?

2) Are the adjustable models adjustable on the fly? If not, do you really find yourself pulling over on a long trip and adjusting them because you need more than 2 foot/leg positions (floorboards and highway pegs)?

3) The chrome billet kit is $60 more than the standard kit. Why is that? Lighter, lasts longer?

4) I've got a 32 inch inseam. Anyone have any experience with whether I should go with a long or short offset if I get that kit?

5) Pictures in the catalog all show round, cylindrical pegs being used. I plan on using the stock passenger pegs which I replaced with boards. These pegs match the style of the floorboards but they're also flat and not round. It doesn't look like you can change the actual angle which the pegs attach to the mounts. Will this angle be OK for using flat pegs?

Thanks a lot folks. I've got so much to learn!

I am considering a very similar mod on my Super Glide Custom, and am looking forward to seeing the answers to your post.
Good luck.

you will note that the instructions show to put the pegs inside the bars so as not to increase your width beyond stock. i have seen many a rider with them on the outside snag objects in parking lots or elsewhere with them. also you look kind funny with your legs spread way apart on the highway. LOL.

I took off my passenger pegs and used them for my highway pegs and bot passenger boards to replace them. Everything matches and it didnt cost too much for the boards. I put mine on the outside of the bars and its very comfrotable. ( IMHO). I dont give a puck what some people think is funny to them , thats what makes putting these bikes together so cool. Do it your way!!!!

I mounted my cheap ones (#5) low and behind the crash bars. That way they're protected when I'm splitting traffic and when I lay em down, they're like forward controls. My heel still rests on the floorboard.

I have the 360's and now have them on my third bike. I like them and they are versatile as to where you want your pegs to sit. They are not adjustable "on the fly."

I bought the 3 piece ring type for the engine guard and some adjustable oblong pegs and they've worked fine for the past eight years. I think the rings sell for about $40 for the two and the pegs were I think $20 or so.

The Adjustables are not made to adjust on the fly, simply to be able to get them excatly where you want them for your legs.
The angle of the peg, the position, and every other turn or elbow shown, will give maximum adjustablility.

I made the mistake of getting the non-adjustables, and I am very limited in how I can set them up. I'll know better next time.

The offset mounts move the peg side to side not front to back. They are for flipping the peg from the inside of the engine guard to the outside, they are not for adjusting the pegs closer to you.

The 360 mount move the peg closer or further away from you. I have 360 mounts and I think they are a great mount for getting you closer or further away. They are not adjusted on the fly, you will need some allen wrenches to adjust them.
