Service interval
I bought my 08 Classic Aug 5th and do a lot of riding. I scheduled the 1000 mile service at the dealer but because I had to wait a week I had around 1500 miles on it when it was done. I asked the wrench at the dealer if I could do my own oil change without voiding the warrenty. He said yes as long as I keep receipts and records and he does his every 2500 miles. He suggested I do the 5000 and 10000 at the dealer. I will be riding home from San Antonio this weekend to Abilene and will have about 4100 miles on my bike and a little over 2600 miles since last service. Should I do my own service at this mileage or should I just wait and have the dealer do it at 5000? The wrench said he doesnt do synthetic in his bike but reading through the forums lots of people do, and the milage is longer so what should i do?

I suggest you get a "Factory Service Manual" and do any of the items that you feel fall within your ability yourself. Those that are more involved you can have a Factory tech do for you at a dealership. This will help you to become more familiar with your scoot and can save you some $$$ as well. If you aren't sure about some of the items in a service see if any of your riding buddies have done them and can do it with you until you feel comfortable.

+1 on what IronAss says, Save your money and do them yourself. Like the tech said keep the receipts and a record of when you do the service. I don't use synthetic but I change my oil every 2500-3000 miles.
