I have an 'o4 E. Glide. When I come to a stop light, my GF has to lift up her right leg and put it on top of mine...and I have FULSAC true duals.
My bike is hot. The oil temp gage may say only 224 degrees.......but
my legs get HOT! Blah, blah, blah about heat deverters, fuel managenment
and whatever. All that is a fix to a problem that shouldn't be.
I figure that the company put on those little black heat shields
in order for people to get used to seeing them there....then in 2010/2011
exchange the funny heat shields in favor of black radiators under the seat.
The fans will blow the heat towards the rear of the bike from beneath the seat.
(the ride will still be HOT....but the engine will survive and radiator
will not be seen for the most part.)
Just ME, thinking out loud.

My 06 had heat on both sides. Would cook the wifes legs at speed. I fixed that with the PCIII. My new 09 only has heat on the right side up by the driver only. Wife loves it. I do not find it to be real bad. I could hardly sit on my 06 at a light. Do not have that problem with my 09. With all of the improvements, six speed, wider tire, and larger motor it was a no brainer for me to upgrade. Heat issues are better on the 09.

My '08 Ultra was a thigh toaster until I had a SERT tuner put on, dyno tune, SE intake and A/C fixed it all. The bike runs like a scalded dog and the heat issues are gone forever!

Perfect in every respect, IMHO.

Wife's right leg and my inner thighs were getting roasted on my 08 Ultra. Added V&H true duals and their Fuelpak with a HP A/C all in one afternoon (by myself) and solved that problem. Cost about $600 cause I already had the Ovals. I love the stereo Duals/Ovals sound too! Good luck.

Harley makes it an easy fix......
1. synthetic fluids
2. true duels
3. stage 1
4. Aux oil cooler
5. floor board extensions to get your legs further out
6. ajustable fairing wind deflectors...eg. dragon wings from kuryakyn
7. hiway pegs
8. pipe heat deflectors for your thighs

easy right?

Yeh, yeh; if heatin' up too much wasn't a problem after the 96 was introduced, why did Harley come out with the quick fix heatshields and change the exhaust routing on the '09's? I've got the shields on my '07 RK and a stage 1 with SE slip-ons and am still roastin' my nuts at stop lights The heat shields are okay when you're movin' because they channel more airflow around the rear cylinder and header but trust me, when you're sittin' still, those shields get nice and warm on your inner thighs

Cool

Buy the bike and enjoy it! Heat shmeat it is an air cooled engine under your ***! My rice gets hot too! if it sits still long enough it has to radiate the heat somewhere. Heat will travel up just by laws of physics. Air cooled rice gets hot air cooled Harleys get hot. Dont ride in your thong and you will be all set! Enjoy it as it will be snowing soon.

The heat issue on my 08 is not with me, its with the wife. Even at speed her right leg is getting cooked. We have friends with 08 Ultra's going through the same thing.

Actually if you wear good "riding" gear it will help deflect heat also, leather gear works great,
if you are riding around in shorts I would say you are asking for fried thighs for dinner!!
