On a 00 Sporty the pin that holds the kick stand on is itself held in place with a small cotter pin. The main support pin is inserted from the bottom so when the cotter pin fails the main pin just falls out. And then the jiffy stand and spring fall off. Hmmm I think it's time to check that pin again.

 

i carry tiny 6inch 1/4 thick bungie cords, they are black and i leave them hooked around random parts like connected to both shock tops and have it wrap around the back of my solo seat, this way it is hidden and i still have it for an emergency.

ive had to use one once when my stand broke, man it comes in handy

even if you dont have a saddlebag you can carry quite a few of these on your ride and keep them hidden
