Default Government influence on Harley-Davidson

Ok guys, I am new here, and I am doing a research report on Harley. I need some information that I have not been able to find on the internet, and hoping you guys can help me.

I need some examples of how the government has influenced Harley-Davidson. And at least two examples of the current relationship between harley and the government today.

thanks in advance for any replys.

Not real experienced here but my guess is that exhaust systems and emissions have been looked at the most by the government for all motorcycle manufacturers. Others will be able to help you out more but I bet a Google search of EPA Restrictions would get you headed down the right path.

It's almost like a fairy tale....

Back in the early 80's, Ronnie Reagan put a tarriff on all Rice-A-Roni Rickshaws arriving from Japan so that Harley could keep it's head above water.

Of course it was really the BLUE COLLAR WORKING SLOBS that kept the MoCo going... to which the MoCo showed their appreciation by increasing the price of their bikes so that we BLUE COLLAR WORKING SLOBS would find it harder to buy them. Just about that time, owning a Harley started to become a fad amongst the doctors, lawyers, celebrities, and other "dress up and play biker" types. This is how we've come to have those wonderful @zzholes known as, R.U.B.'s, Credit Card Bikers, Fad Bikers, Dress Up and Play Bikers, blah, blah, blah, blah, Damn.. i'm rambling again.... but I'm still gonna live happily ever after.... dammit

You might want to check out the "Harley Davidson History" link at the top of the page...

I find your analogy of Reagan's action a bit off level. What you're saying is during the Reagan years, we were wrong to put tarriffs on imports. Do you really think the blue collar workers turned H-D around all on their own? While in an ideal world there would be no tarriffs on any products coming into America or any other country, we are one of few living under this ideal myth and it's cost us way too many blue and white collar jobs. In this world, we need to learn to play by the rules Japan and China have played by for years. Within our lifetime, we'll see America lose more ground to the likes of China, Korea, and countless other third world countries. Keep on buying imported everything from cars, motorcycles, hammers, and everything else out there and your grandchildren will pay the measly sum you saved today many times over. Japan and China already know this and we are slow to learn. Just my 2 cents worth.

No, what I said was.... When your Bowling Ball Crap Merchandise (i.e. my 1980 Eighty Incher) is so flawed by QUALITY PROBLEMS, and you're turning out nothing but GARBAGE, well, then one would go sniveling to the government for protection.

I refuse to hijack this thread.

Uh, topic's a little broad there, Red. What part of "the government"--the State Department? The National Institutes of Health? The Government Printing Office?

Paper's not due tomorrow morning by any chance, is it?

Look on the HD website. Get the customer service number and call them. HD is a public company and they will help you with that information regarding EPA emissions compliance, safety standards etc.
