Whats is "countersteering"...???

However, taking a corner at speed - everyone already countersteers. There is no other way it can be done - even on a bicycle. It is in that regard where it is obvious, natural, and everyone is doing it. Those who battle the corners do so because they are fighting it.

My only problem with the MSF courses teaching to push the bars in the direction you want to go is this: A common problem with riders, both cruisers and sport, is that they straight arm the inside elbow on the turn. Thus, they are leaning more of their body to the outside of the bike rather than with the bike. I've always felt more like this: If I lean my body slightly going into the turn, while keeping my arms stationary, it causes a gentle pull from the outside arm, which causes the counter steer. Therefore, my inside elbow isn't straight and my body is leaning with the bike. I'm not saying that is the case with everyone, but with an inexperienced rider they tend to push the bars to initiate the counter steer, but at the same time they push their body away from that direction.
Dirt bike riders also provide an easy, obvious visual on that as well. They generally keep their body & head perpendicular to the ground and throw the bike around underneath them.
Personally, I usually *don't* lean my body in a curve or turn.

I have had riders on my tail on the straights but they usually fall way behind when the curves come up...maybe its my tires?....they do make a BIG difference....maybe an idea for another thread...BTW...what tires do you prefer and why?...:>)

Please watch this video and watch an EVO Wide Glide run away from a BMW R 1200 in the corners, and then the BMW has to scream in the straights to catch up.
I've posted this before but it's worth a look because that Harley should have long ago been lost in the dust.
