What they teach in the MSF course is countersteering as an emergency avoidance maneuver - that is something of which one needs be aware and practice.

However, taking a corner at speed - everyone already countersteers. There is no other way it can be done - even on a bicycle. It is in that regard where it is obvious, natural, and everyone is doing it. Those who battle the corners do so because they are fighting it.

Thus, they are leaning more of their body to the outside of the bike rather than with the bike. I've always felt more like this: If I lean my body slightly going into the turn, while keeping my arms stationary, it causes a gentle pull from the outside arm, which causes the counter steer. Therefore, my inside elbow isn't straight and my body is leaning with the bike. I'm not saying that is the case with everyone, but with an inexperienced rider they tend to push the bars to initiate the counter steer, but at the same time they push their body away from that direction.
Nothing wrong with that. The lean of your body only has some influence on what's happening in the turn. You can sit on top of your bike while turning if you want (i.e. sit on the left side of the bike while going through a right turn). That's generally what you'll see on guys with big bikes doing the MSF figure 8 box - they'll have their bagger damn near laying on the ground while they lean the complete opposite way.

Dirt bike riders also provide an easy, obvious visual on that as well. They generally keep their body & head perpendicular to the ground and throw the bike around underneath them.

Personally, I usually *don't* lean my body in a curve or turn.

Maybe it's your riding.

Please watch this video and watch an EVO Wide Glide run away from a BMW R 1200 in the corners, and then the BMW has to scream in the straights to catch up.

I've posted this before but it's worth a look because that Harley should have long ago been lost in the dust.
