Default How often to replace battery in security fob?

My 2005 SE Fat Boy is a little over 3 years old. I use my remote security fob, to set the alarm, , when I park the bike away from my garage.
I am starting to think that eventually I will set the alarm somewhere, come back out and not be able to disengage it, because of a dead battery. Figure it would be cheap insurance to replace the batteries, every 3 years or so.
Does it just require opening the fob and replacing the battery or do you need to link the fob back to the security system, after replacing the battery.
I never have assigned a security code, so I could use the turn signals to disengage the alarm.
I read the instructions and it seemed like it would be fairly easy for me to screw up, trying to put in a personnel code, so I left well enough alone.
Has anyone had their fob battery go dead?
Tom

I just replaced the battery for my 2006 key fob. The battery cost a couple of bucks, and took about 20 seconds to replace. It worked fine afterwards- there was no setup or anything. It just worked. I spent more time worrying about it than it took to replace the battery.

I had a bad connection on one of the battery contacts in my fob on my 07... just popped it open with the edge of a quarter, spun the battery in the holder a little and it's worked fine ever since.

You shouldn't have to reset anything.

I was told when I bought my bike that if you did not use HD batteries it would void your warranty also they had to be changed at every service, by a qualified service tech with one hour of labor for each of the FOB's.

I change mine once a year at the same time I change all the batteries in my gun safes and smoke detectors. If I do not do them all at the same time I will forget.

I'd change the numbers. It's probably 11111 right now and anyone can disarm the bike and ride. Also good to know how to do it yourself if you're out and lose or break the fob

get outta Dodge!!! an hour's labor for 2 mintues work??? that sounds like a crock - like it'll void your warranty if you or anyone but a HD tech does a service.

oh - to replace the battery takes a quarter - the batteries are sold everywhere - you can even get one at WallyWorld. my indy suggested changing it once a year.

I guess it is time for me to change my FOB batteries.....
since I bought the bike used and do not know if or when
they were changed last.
Also, about the 'turn-signal' disengage. Is there a way to
reset the turn signal code? Since I bought the bike from
an estate, I do not know the turn signal code. The original
owner is dead and did not write
the code anywhere in the owners manual.
(Guess I'll try the 11111....then go to 22222.......33333.......)

on my 08 to view and change the code it was something like ignition 3 times, left turn signal 3 times and right once. Don't have the manual here so I might be off a little
