Default How long did you wait before riding a passenger?

Simple question. Just out of curiosity, how long did you wait until you let a passenger ride on the back of your bike? IE how many miles did you ride solo first?

Make sure you are 100 percent comfortable with your bike. 2 up throws off the weight dynamics of the bike. Make sure your passenger knows some about riding as well. DO NOT rush it.

Good question. I've been riding 18 months / 7,000 miles and still no rider on the back. Part of it is I enjoy my freedom on a bike. Don't want the responsibility of a rider.

Rode the dirtbikes with my sisters when I was 15. Put my future wife on when I was 19. On the street at 20. Riding with a passenger is different than riding alone and riding with a passenger that knows how to be a passenger makes a huge difference in handling and control. Best passenger I ever rode with was my son when he was about 20 years old. He weighed about 200 pounds and it was like he wasn't even there. Pretty amazing feeling compared to some others I've given rides to.

After NOT riding for 34 Years. I bought a new 2007 Ultra and rode for about one month everday a little bit. Finally I felt it was right to try it with my wife on the back. Dropped her and the bike about two days later at a sto sign. My wife was laughing like crazy. Made me feel stupid. She now ride herself and I just bought her a 2007 Heritage after she has had a sportster for a year. Good luck. There are several good artcles on the net that discusses 2 up ride.

I dont think theres a set time, you'll just know when the time comes. Put someone back there you hate first, or at least dislike. You Start with the neighbors barking dog.

It does change the ride. Make sure you tell em to lean with you, and not fight it or do gymnastics back there.

My teenie bopper (so was I) girlfriend and I needed transport to get some privacy so we could .... um ... you know ...... have some he and she time (1st time BTW). Well, on the way home from the DMV on my XL 175 I picked her up and we "made the trip". So I guess about 4 miles would be my answer. And I remember my dad once told me her dad commented how happy he was I had a bike and now a van LOL LOL LOL

I'd say when you feel confident on your bike. Then go for short rides at first. It's really a matter of practice. Keep in mind, as the others have said, you must do everything more cautiously with the added weight. When I ride with my wife, I usually go the speed limit, I ride very carefully, leaving my self a lot of room to brake.
