I usually wait 5 to 10 minutes...everytime we go riding. I have no idea how long to wait. With bicycles, mini-bikes, dirt bikes in my past, I've carried a passenger on two wheels most of my life. Even with the V-rod, we rode double when we test rode it at the dealer. All I can say is when you think you are comfortable with it, if your passneger is new to it, go find a big, empty parking lot and the two of you figure out how you are going to ride. Sometimes my wife stays back on the sissy bar, other times she leans with me and sometimes I lean in and she keeps her upper body perpendicular to the ground. It all depends on the kind of riding we are doing and the speed we are going. We've been doing it for so long it all comes natural. When we come to a stop at a light and I have my feet planted, she'll even stand up and stretch. Depending how many "honks" she gets, she may even do a little dance on the pegs.

 

This is a strangely interesting question! The last two bikes the maiden voyages were 2 up. like some of us here, I have been riding some 35 years. Never gave this much though. I don't even think I could give a newbie any advice. Only had one person that I had to tell to just go with the flow with the bike. And even that has been many years ago.

 

Hmmm...got my bike when i was 19/20 am now 23 and couple months ago took my buddies girlfriend out for a ride...now she doesnt wanna stop (thats what she said)...WHAT SHOULD I DO!?!? LoL dont think too much into this you pervs...When i first started i didnt want another life on my hands other then my own take your time there isnt any real rush for a passenger

 

When I got my first "big" bike (Shadow 750) I had a passenger the first day. She used to ride with her dad since she was a kid and instructed me one afternoon. Man that was great! So was that evening when I instructed her on a few things!

 

rode about 2000 miles before rode my wife... mother once... now I can't get the wife to let me ride solo... so take all the time you need!

 

I was riding for about 2 months when 19 and I took my girlfriend no my wife on my 78 GS 750 we almost hit some deer and it scared her. Rode solo for awhile then I got a '98 Heritage and she wanted to try it again. Told her to keep feet on pegs and follow my head when in turns etc. Forgot to tell not to shift weight while stopping. I was stopping at a red light just ready to put feet down and for some reason she shifted as her weight and the bike went down. Right away she asked me what happend : ) I smiled and said nothing. I will admit at that time she was a lot heavier then me and weight does make a difference I do not care what anyone tells you. Had bad accident last year solo now she will not get on the RKC I got. I will work on it. She has lost a ton of wieght and like always looks real fine on the bike : )
I wish they made a class for passengers.....

Just make sure your passenger knows what NOT to do.

 

First thing I usually do is remove the passenger seat.
On my Cross Bones I didn't even have to do that.
Much prefer solo and it keeps me out of trouble.

 

The day I picked my bike up I had not ridden in over 10 years, I drove it home all back roads, I took a couple of really back roads that I knew were full of curves, got home the bike had 115miles on it, the OL got out of the car and onto the bike and away we went.
