My wife also went from a BT to a Sporty. Don't hear of too many who do that. She sold her Heritage this summer and picked up an 883C for a song. She could ride her Heritage just fine, but realized her riding was more around town commuting and on the weekend than across America. She's happier than ever, and sure doesn't mind getting 55mpg either.

I ride an XL1200C, but I grew up on old Triumphs and UJMs, so a Sporty is the *only* Harley for me......until I add a Road King to the lineup

 

I agree with riding several of them. I think you'll probably find that the Super Glide will fit you better. If you get the 883 I think it will leave you wanting more in the very near future. Everyone has their own opinions though and likes and dislikes. The Super Glide is a great bike. I love mine. For the money it's a great way to get a Harley and get on the road.

 

I like my SuperGlide Custom, but in a way prefer the standard; kind of an industrial cool about it. My BW prefered the custom, so I didn't argue. SuperGlide roomier and softer for two-up. Being a less-is-more guy I'd have a basic 883 for just me. Maybe $8 or $9k with a few farkles.

 

Well I am going to be different here and actaully not recommend what I ride like many, but I think at 6 foot you should go with the Dyna. I love my 1200C, but I am only 5 foot 8 and it fits me well. If I was 6 foot, I would have spent the extra $ and bought the Dyna.

 

6' or more, get the Super Glide. You'll be less cramped.

My first season of riding and i bought my 883 XLH from a guy off my local navy base. I like the bike but love the SG more. Im keeping the XLH till next season then im going out to get my SG custom. Some people ride sportsters their whole lives and love them. But like everyone says im moving up to get more leg room.

 

I was always told to stay away from Sportsters uness you wear jeans that zip up the butt

 

So Charlie, how do you like those jeans?

 

Go test ride them both. Think about what kind of riding you plan on doing and then decide which will fit your overall riding style. Buy the one you like better and go put some miles on it.

I like both bikes, but i'm obviously a Sportster guy.

 

Defintely test ride...keep shopping dealers until you find one that will let you test ride what you need.

One thing you can't figure out in a test ride: riding two-up. IMO the Sportster, especially for guys 6'+ is a s-o-l-o bike. The SuperGlide will have the extra room and power that will make riding two-up practical and comfortable.

EDIT: obviously, you'll need a new seat for riding two-up
