So buy loud pipes so you sound good, but wear earplugs so you don't gotta hear it? This cracks me up!

I do like loud pipes, don't get me wrong.

Is there an echo in here?

Actually, I like the sound from the pipes, too, and don't wear 'em around town. On the hiway, the wind noise is the most tiring & objectionable, and the plugs help a lot. I can still hear the exhaust with the plugs in.

Same for me. Tooling around town, I don't use plugs, but if I'm going on the highway, in they go. The wind noise at highway speed is deafening, and I actually find it rather painful without earplugs.

As for loud exhaust, it's behind you, so the volume won't really be an issue.

Cheers!

Actually, the worst part for your hearing is the wind, not the sound of your pipes (the guy in front of you who has loud pipes might be a problem though). Plus you can still hear your pipes (at least I can) with plugs in.

I'm kindof in a bind, I'll have to test it out, but I don't think I'll be able to hear my stereo if I have plugs in.

My doctor told me not to insert anything bigger than my elbows in my ears. Doctors, what do they know - I can't get my elbows anywhere near my ears [&:]

I have to agree with everyone else, using ear plugs is the way to go.
You will find the wind will hurt you more than the sound will.

Not sure how much difference between the sporty and my EG but with the V&H I can hear a rumble but nothing compared to the wind at Highway speeds. A day running 65+ on the Interstates causes my head to roar.....but the same day on the back roads cause no problems...

I ran Vance & Hines on my Fatboy for 7 years and I had no problems with the noise or my hearing.
