Default BIKE History

I am about to become a Harley owner. I am buying a 2005 model from a private individual.
He has given me the VIN # and I would like to check it out to make sure the bike has a clear title
and find out where it was bought and any other history on it.
Where can I go for this info?
Aprreciate the help.

CPAZ, check with the DMV for information on what you are asking. They should be able to give you that. As for as any other history the owner would have to tell you that.

You can take the VIN to a dealer and they should be able to tell you all the Warranty work that could have been done on the Bike.

Uh...maybe I'm crazy but you want to take the WHOLE BIKE...to a dealer and have them do a complete inspection and certify that it has not been wrecked, in a flood, stolen, etc etc....then check with CARFAX and see if they handle motorcycles if they do get a report on the vin and if they don't call your insurance agent and he should know who will. Go to the Harley website and use the dealer locator to find a dealer in your area. Call several and price shop the service. If you do your homework up front you probably won't get stuck with a lemon. Good Luck!

Not every state reports to Carfax, only something like 26 or so. Don't bet on Carfax being 100% but it's better than nothing.
