Default Do Loud Pipes Rly Save Lives? (opinions)

Yes, I know there has probably been a million posts on this subject, but IMHO I really do think they do, and if I didnt i probably wouldnt have gotten the pipes I have on my Bike now...Ive only been riding for maybe 4 yrs going on 5 and Ive noticed everytime someone in a cage doesnt pay attention i usually grab a little throtle and then they either look or stop dead in their tracks *When I have the right of way of course* and I also think the laws with this cituation are getting a little excessive, thats just another subject So what do you guys/gals say?

Mine scared some deer off the road in front of me a couple of weeks ago... otherwise, I would have likely hit them! They've also made people NOT change lanes into me. So, yeah, I'd say they can save lives. Is that the reason I have them? Nope. I like the way they sound.

Cheers!

I think they do and I have had a couple of close calls that I swear the loud pipes made a difference. With that being said, I changed the wimpy Harley horn for two very loud automotive horns and they really get peoples attention quickly. Just a thought...

Yes, there have been a million posts about this. And regardless of what the tree huggers, and the PC noise police say, the answer is yes. Yes, they save lives. Mine have saved mine a number of times over the years. Now, let's all move along before the previously mentioned PC cops get here to chastize us all.

Just put some louder pipes on my Road King, and drivers really notice me better now.

The Deuce is fairly loud. You can hear me from a block away. Didn't stop dude from trying to run me over in the left lane. He was def and blind. The Ultra is somewhat quieter but I usually have the radio cranked. No dear yet and I live in the woods. I am a very cautious rider. Never pass a car on the right unless I am crawling and always watch for the blind.

Loud Pipes Save Lights

Extra Lighting Saves Lives

Reflective Clothing on your Upper Torso Saves Lives

Good Helmets Save Lives

Safe Riders Save Lives

Knowledgeable and Safe Automobile Drivers Save Lives

Now everything listed above may not have definitive scientific proof to correspond to it, it has to be accepted under the grounds that there are also no definitive scientific proof that they are incorrect.
Having louder pipes cannot make your less likely to be seen, so why should we state that they don’t add a possibility that your more likely to be seen.
A nice light structure has to provide some form of visibility, even if all you can do is ride during daylight hours with your bright lights on.
Reflective clothing has to add a degree a visibility.
Helmets actually do have scientific proof of history to save lives – Learn what a SNELL certification is.
Well informed drivers defiantly help save lives – just ask yourself next time driving your truck down the road – how many bikes did you spot – probably more then those without a biker history. While driving on Americas highways – look for those lovely electronic signs – seen in a couple states (OH-KY-TN) that they tell drivers to look out for Motorcycles – I love those.
Scientific proof does back up the story that touring bikes are less likely to be involved in an accident then smaller bikes. Is that just because the rider likely spent more money on it?
Not to vent but to say that you don’t believe something saves lives just because you don’t see how, or think it’s a myth. When I hear a set of loud pipes – I can assure you I look for where it’s coming from, and to see if it’s a Harley

All I’m saying is – next time your out, notice what stuck out on a bike that made you see it – the sound, the lights, the size, or the rider – and realize that’s probably what saved that riders life.

Ok I'll get off my soap box now.

I think the fact that a Southern California town (the name of the town escapes me)elected to mount loud aftermarket pipes on all police motorcycles makes a strong statement in favor of loud pipes being a positive factor in preventing accidents in congested urban situations.
