Thanks Terry for your story it was very good of you to share it with us.I'm sorry to hear about your wife I know that must have been very hard on you but it sounds like you are happy again and that is great. It sounds like you have a great group there and if I can get in a group like that it will be awsome.

Thanks to all of you for your input on this because it realy helps to make a decission.I have been thinking about it for a while and just was'nt sure if I wanted to be a member of a group because sometimes I like to do my own thing. This sounds like the kind of group I'm looking for and hey if it does'nt work I can say I gave it a shot.

Thanks again
Craig

Craig,
I have recently joined H.O.G. and have been anxiously waiting for my ‘package’ to arrive. I toiled over this for some time as I know more former members than current members due to some bad feeling with the local chapter. Several of us decided to join (and re-join) H.O.G. and wait it out until things clean up. Don’t get me wrong, I love to ride, I am one of the active members in anything I join and I drink beer, but good god, not all at the same time and to excess!!
Best of Luck and I am sure you will enjoy H.O.G.!

Terry said it all, that is the kind of people we all want to be around.

Even if you dont join your local, or if you do and dont like it, the perks of the national are worth $40 a year. Between the insurance discount and the free towing, what else do you need, something for anybody without the membership to think about. Two years ago I was on my way to work, shirt tie and all, got a flat on the rear, a couple of phone calls later I ended up at the next dealership, not a bad deal at all.

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in.

Terry, that's an awesome story. That's what HOG should be all about. Thanks for sharing.

Terry, a very heart warming story, you ought to send that into HOG, maybe they would publish it in Hog Tales or Enthusiast for the whole world to read!!!!!! That's what it should be all about!!!!!

Hey Craig,

Let me tell you of my experience with HOG.

I'm a life member of National and belong to the Central Illinois Chapter (Effingham, IL). I've met some of my best friends in HOG and have been to many, many rallys. I've met all the CEOs of Harley and Willie G and have been on some of the best rides of my life.

In 1998 when my wfe was unable to ride anymore due to ALS (Lou Gerig's Disease) I received a telephone call from my Chapter President. He had arranged a loaner FLT with a sidecar so we could participate in our MDA Poker Run (ALS falls under MDA). After spending a whole day in the sidecar (which would be her last ride) the Chapter threw a huge party for us and donated all the proceeds to us to help pay medical bills. As my wife's condition worsened there was hardly a day that went by that I didn't hear a group of Harleys pulling in my drive to visit. Chapter members made sure we had food and would often give me a break by sitting with my wife while I took a breather from the day in and day total care that she needed.

When my wife passed away in 1999 there were over 50 Harley's at the funeral with a police escort. I couldn't ask for a better bunch of people.

I can't guarantee you that your local chapter will be the same as mine but you should give a try. Show up, be active and have fun.

My new wife was accepted by all and we continue to ride with this group as often as possible. We have many great rides planned for this summer and I can't wait til the weather turns and we can get out and have some fun.
Man, that's a great story, and what the "family" is all about!

Cheers!

My wife and I participated in a couple of events sponsored by our local HOG which we were members. I was not too pleased with the leadership and some of the members. It seemed to me and my wife that they were distant and very clickish. However, you make a situation what you want it to be. We decided to do the solo riding and to be on our own terms.

You may find it differently in your local area.
