I think you get as much or as little as you want from these groups. We have lots of great people in our HOG group, and there is always something to do if you want to..otherwise- head off in your own direction!

I'm with investorsc. We're members of our local HOG and while we don't attend any of the meetings we do get to do some nice rides with some good people and they're always trying to help the community.

I really think this is the best answer. Your level of involvement really will dictate your level of enjoyment...

We've been members for 11 years. Sometimes active in the local chapter, and sometimes not.

I like the benefits of the National HOG and will continue my membership.

Regards,

Bill

Art, will you still be at Chuck's at 8:30 on Saturday?
I can be. They'll have free coffee and I can usually be anywhere at any time if there's enough cofee. Seriously, they're only 10 mins. from me, so 8:30 is no problem. I still haven't heard from them about the bike being done, so maybe it will still be there on Saturday. I had hoped that they had the SEII slip-ons and air filter kit in stock and that it would be done by now, although as you are aware, our weather hasn't been real great this week. Looking forward to meeting you sometime, somewhere (even if I have to ride all the way to Clinton to do it.) I just there was a different road between us. I consider 51 to be a boring, speed trap between the two of us.

That is so true!!!
My local chapter has something like 600 members. Never seen all of em gathered at once. We won a chapter challenge on a poker run a couple of weeks ago. Nothing like seeing 126 bikes cruising the freeway in one massive formation. As far as the HOG group or any group goes somethings to keep in mind are...
1. Leave your ego at home.
2. Have fun.

Our chapter motto is we live to ride and ride to eat!

Hey Craig,

Let me tell you of my experience with HOG.

I'm a life member of National and belong to the Central Illinois Chapter (Effingham, IL). I've met some of my best friends in HOG and have been to many, many rallys. I've met all the CEOs of Harley and Willie G and have been on some of the best rides of my life.

In 1998 when my wfe was unable to ride anymore due to ALS (Lou Gerig's Disease) I received a telephone call from my Chapter President. He had arranged a loaner FLT with a sidecar so we could participate in our MDA Poker Run (ALS falls under MDA). After spending a whole day in the sidecar (which would be her last ride) the Chapter threw a huge party for us and donated all the proceeds to us to help pay medical bills. As my wife's condition worsened there was hardly a day that went by that I didn't hear a group of Harleys pulling in my drive to visit. Chapter members made sure we had food and would often give me a break by sitting with my wife while I took a breather from the day in and day total care that she needed.

When my wife passed away in 1999 there were over 50 Harley's at the funeral with a police escort. I couldn't ask for a better bunch of people.

I can't guarantee you that your local chapter will be the same as mine but you should give a try. Show up, be active and have fun.

My new wife was accepted by all and we continue to ride with this group as often as possible. We have many great rides planned for this summer and I can't wait til the weather turns and we can get out and have some fun.
