Yeah....Piaggio bought MV Agusta, not the whole Piaggio conglomerate.
Anyway...Vepsas are indeed the HD of the scooter world, as said above. Some of them cost about as much as a Sportster, but they are well made--way better than anyother scooter-- and have a brand legacy and update retro appeal that you can't fake. They are pretty cool. If ya gotta ride a scooter, you can't beat a Vespa. (It means "wasp" in Italian, if anyone cares.)
So, yeah...cross marketing. Bring the wife in for her Night Train, and then the teenage daughter wants a Cross Bones, the tweenie son drools over the Road King, dad wants a Nightster, and college-aged enviro-minded kid (son or daughter) wants the Vespa. Helmets for all.

Ya'll have to admit, HD's been in the business a long time. They have made a few marketing mistakes, but very _very_ few.

I'm not a huge scooter guy, but if I had to own one, you bet your a$$ it be a Vespa. My uncle had the same one for 30 yrs in Greece.
A) They're everywhere in Europe
B) Starting to see a whole lot around the westside here in LA
C) They got some juice in them.
D) They are Italian, so they are very well made. (Don't know about the new ones, but the old ones like my uncles took a beating for years)

I have a Vespa GT 250. It has riding characteristics different from my NT. Lower center of gravity and small wheels make it it's own set of fun. I am not ashamed at all for owning one and very proud given my partial Italian heritage.
We all must remember that anyone who rides two to three wheels, be it a tricycle, bicycle, motor trike, scooter or full blown HD is a brother. There are those who find anything less than a HD (metric, Indian or any of the above) is chit and shouldn't be even acknowledged on the road. I find this unfortunate.

I can't remember the exact figure, but of the 1500 HD dealerships, something like 650 - 700 carry other brands.

Vespa is a great scooter, but if you've been to a Vespa Boutique, it's worlds away from a Harley Dealership. It'll be neat to see the a vespa buyer's expression when they see their tiny scooter parked next to a gigantic Ultra Classic.

I just received an e-mail from Stormy Hill HD in Clermont saying that they are going to be carrying Piaggio/Vespa Scooters. Seems like an odd relationship to me.
