Get sleepy when riding with helmet?

When CO2 levels rise, it triggers you to breathe. Wont put you to sleep unless you're hyperventilating.
Trapped CO behind the face shield (particularly when used in conjunction with a windshield) and excessive heat in the bucket are the problem. Ventilate the damn thing.

i always wear a ff helmet, but with the ultra and the radio, i have those things to keep me awake.
while riding without rain, i keep the faceshield up. i do find that when it is raining and i put the faceshield down that it seems different and i can understand where getting sleepy could happen.
i have narcolepsy and am claustrophobic, so i have more problems than most staying awake as well as having a problem with a closed helmet.
try:
- singing to yourself, even out load.
- play the old letter game. where you have to find a word on a sign with each letter in it. one letter per sign. a, b, c, d, .....,etc. q and z are difficult.
- try to think of something that will keep your mind active without interfering with paying attention to riding. something like name all the states. or name as many countries as you can, as many rivers as you can.
- leaving the face shield slightly open to get more air flow. this works unless the rain is heavy in which case too much rain gets inside. but with me if there is that much rain, then i am paying real close attention anyway.
- take along one of the quick energy drinks, like those little ones in the red bottle. they work well for me.
- bring a bottle of water and take a swig every now and then. this also helps me when i am tired
- suck on a life saver or other hard candy
- alternating your speed. like doing 55 for 10 seconds, then 57, then 54.
most of the above give you something to think about that is not too distracting and thus will help to keep awake.
whatever you do address the issue immediately. way too easy to catch yourself doing the ol head bob thing. i have fallen asleep while on an expressway doing 65+. i strongly advise against it.

Mark's answers are right on the money....but if those don't work......
1) The helmets too small....it's squeezing your brain
2) Take the baffles out of your pipes, then cut about 8 inches off the mufflers. It'll look like crap, but you'll be awake
3) Get someone to ride on the back and slap you in the head every 30 seconds
4) Jam your cell phone in between your helmet and your ear.....then get someone to call you every few minutes
